Invited lecture on Mangrove Biodiversity

Dr. Rani Varghese, CUSAT, has agreed to deliver a lecture on the 4th of August 2021 about “Incredible mangrove ecosystems: Status, services and biodiversity”.

The talk will be at 10.00 AM and all students are welcome to actively participate in it. Google meet link will be shared as soon as we have it.

Campus recruitment

Congrats E T Sarath (B.Sc. Zoology 2021 batch), for being selected to the South Indian Bank as Probationary Clerk.

Bachelor of Science in Zoology

• Sanctioned strength – 12.

Research leading to PhD

Elective course in Apiculture

• This course is meant for the fifth semester students of the college. Thirty five students can join the course.

Webinar Series 2021

Department of Zoology is organising a series of talks during the odd semester. First talk on “future after zoology” was held on 27-07-2021. Expert educationalist Mr. Kiran, delivered the lecture.

On 28-07-2021 at 7.30 PM Indian Standard Time (IST) we will have a talk on “Viral Zoonoses”, by Dr. Jobin Jose Kattoor, Post-Doctoral Research Associate, Animal Disease Diagnostic Laboratory, Department of Comparative Pathobiology, Purdue University.

More talks will be announced as soon as we have confirmation from the speakers.

Congrats Dr. Jimly C. Jacob!

Our faculty member Ms. Jimly C. Jacob has been awarded Ph.D. degree by the Cochin University of Science and Technology, for successfully defending her thesis “MICROFLORA IN THE CONTINENTAL SHELF SEDIMENTS OF SOUTH – WESTERN BAY OF BENGAL” which was undertaken under the guidance of Dr. Rosamma Philip. Congrats Dr. Jimly!!

Dr. Jimly C. Jacob accepting a memento of appreciation from Dr. Joselet Mathew (Former Principal, NGC and Assoc. Prof. Dept of Zoology) on the 9th of September, 2017.

A function was arranged on the 9th of September, to commemorate the 50 years of establishment of the Zoology Department at the college. Former teachers, Principal and the Bursar, were present for the function. Dr. Jimly was awarded a memento during the function. The meeting was attended by around 100 students (both former and present) of the department. It was followed by a lunch and lab visit.

Bhoomithrasena

Bhoomithrasena Club (BMSC) was inaugurated at Nirmalagiri College, on the 22nd of June. Prof. Janzy George (Retd. HoD, Dept. Zoology, NGC) inaugurated the club. Fr. Joby Jacob, Vice Principal, department head Dr. Sali George and club members and DoZ students were present for the function.Various activities are planned for the year. The activities of the club is coordinated by Ms. Jimly C. Jacob and Dr. Sali George.

Pondicherry University Entrance Results

Our students (2014-2017 batch) have proven that they are up to the task by qualifying for various Pondicherry University courses through National Level entrance tests.
